Father Steven Hoffman was named parochial administrator of Gichitwaa Kateri parish in Min­neapolis and di­rector of the arch­diocesan Office of Indian Ministry, effective June 15. In order to

allow the Strategic Plan­ning Process to move forward in the coming year, Archbishop John Nienstedt has decided to ap­point priests who will lead parish communities as parochial administrators rather than as pastors at this time.

In addition nine other priests have been given new assignments.

Father Hoff­man, who was or­dain­ed in 2007, has been serving as an assistant pastor at St. John Neu­m­ann in Eagan. The following six priests also will begin new assignments on Tuesday, June 15.

Father Dennis Backer was named to serve as parochial administrator of Nativity in Cleveland and Immaculate Conception of Marysburg in Washington Township. Since his ordination in 2007, he has served at St. Hubert in Chanhassen and Epiph­any in Coon Rapids.

Father Gregory Abbott will serve as an assistant pastor at Epiphany in Coon Rapids. He has served at St. Michael in St. Michael since he was ordained in 2007.

Father Shane Campbell was nam­ed assistant pastor at St. Amb­rose of Woodbury. After his 2007 or­dination, he began serving at Epi­ph­any in Coon Rapids.

Father Nels Gjengdahl will serve as assistant pastor at St. John Neu­mann in Eagan and as high school chaplain at St. Thomas Academy in Mendota Heights. He has been serving at St. Odilia in Shoreview since he was ordained in 2007.

Father John Meyer was named assistant pastor at the Cathedral of St. Paul and St. Vincent de Paul in St. Paul. He was ordained in 2008 and has been serving at St. Charles Borromeo in St. Anthony.

Father Fernando Ortega
will serve as assistant pastor at St. Stephen in Anoka. He was ordained in 2008 and has been serving at St. Michael in Kenyon and St. Patrick and Divine Mercy, both in Faribault.

The following three priests will begin their assignments July 1.

Father Kevin Magner, who was ordained in 2003, will begin graduate studies in canon law. He has served as pastor at St. Anne in Hamel since October 2005. He previously served as sacramental minister at St. John the Evangelist in Hopkins, and as an assistant pastor at Our Lady of Grace in Edina and St. Charles Borromeo in St. Anthony.

Father Corey Belden was named parochial administrator at St. Anne in Hamel and chaplain at Providence Acad­emy in Plymouth. He has been serving as sacramental minister at Sacred Heart in Rush City and as pastor at St. Mathias in Hampton and St. Mary in New Trier. After his ordination in 2002, he served as an assistant pastor at St. Michael and St. Mary parishes in Stillwater and  Imma­culate Heart of Mary in Min­ne­­tonka. He also served as chaplain at Holy Family Catholic High School in Victoria.

Father Edwin Savundra was nam­ed parochial administrator at Sacred Heart in Rush City. He was ordained in 1972 and was incardinated into the archdiocese in 2005. He has served as pastor at Immaculate Conception of Marysburg in Washington Township and Nativity of Mary in Cleveland and as an assistant pastor at St. Gregory the Great in North Branch. He also was a faculty member at St. Thomas Academy in Mendota Heights.
